“Morning is an important time of day, because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have.”

– Lemony Snicket

Do you wake up on the ‘wrong side’ of bed every day?

Do you spend all day stressed and feeling on edge?

Do you wish to have a better start to the day so that you can spend it in a more peaceful manner?

Then you’re at the right place! Here you’ll get some tips and tricks so that you can create a calming morning routine.

Tired of All the Websites Asking You to Do Impossible Things?

You may have come across many websites that tell you to spend your mornings exercising or doing yoga. Or perhaps giving suggestions on what to eat or drink. While that is good, it may feel overwhelming at first. This may have an opposite effect. You might feel guilty for not being able to do what is advised.

Don’t worry, we got you!

Follow these steps to create a routine best for you:-

Remember that this is a trial and error process. Do what you can or it may create more worry than necessary.

Be Mindful of Your Time

First thing you need to do is calculate how much time you have. From the moment you wake up to the moment you need to leave the house. Then you can decide what you should do. Let’s say you have 30 mins to spare. What things can you fit into those 30 minutes without overloading?

Get Enough Sleep

A good night’s sleep can work wonders. When you’re well rested, mornings won’t feel as tiring. Getting 6-8 hours of sleep might not always be possible, but try to get as close as you can to this.

First off, start small. Do what you feel comfortable with. Determine how much time you have each morning. Wake up at 7 and need to get to work at 8? How long does travelling take? This will help you know how much time you have

Spend Time Doing Grounding Exercises

If you wake up anxious and tired, grounding can help you calm yourself. 54321 is a common grounding technique that you can use. Take note of 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste. Others can be listening to music or a podcast, breathing exercises, cuddling your pet, holding ice, taking a walk, etc.

Get in Those Physical Movements

Moving your body is another way of grounding yourself. You can play some music and dance to it. Stretching or doing some jumping jacks can also be helpful.

Keep Yourself Occupied with Doing Your Favourite Activities

If you have a stressful day ahead, you’re probably gonna spend the morning thinking about work. So take a few minutes in the morning and do what you love. Start your day with your favourite activity. Few examples could be painting, reading or solving a puzzle.

Your Morning Routine in A Nutshell

Here’s an example of how your morning routine can look like if you have an hour in the morning:-

  1. Wake up, freshen up, do some stretches (drink water first)

  2. Take a bath and relax your body

  3. Cook breakfast (something simple that doesn’t require too much effort) and eat in silence (or while listening to something)

  4. Listen to music, dance to the tune

  5. Make a list of tasks that need to be done that day

  6. Get ready and leave the house

Remember: Do not push yourself too much; this morning routine is meant to make you feel lighter. Setting yourself up to some high standard can make you feel worse and more restless throughout the day.

Other Helpful Activities You Can Add to Your Morning Routine

1. Self affirmations

2. Gratitude

3. Sitting in the sun

4. Set intentions for the day

5. Journaling to clear your mind

6. Going for a run

7. Cycling

And in this way, you can add your own twist and create a calming morning routine to give yourself a peaceful and enjoyable day!
