In a world that often glorifies perfection, many of us feel trapped in this so-called flawless society. Perfectionism may sound aspirational that one wants to achieve, but it can be adverse to our well-being and this can lead to anxiety, stress, and constant feelings of disappointment with oneself. However, there is a liberating alternative to this, Embracing imperfections. By letting go of the unrealistic standards we set for ourselves, and accepting our flaws as humans, we can adopt more healthier and satisfying lives.

Perfectionism is characterized by a relentless drive to achieve unattainable standards of excellence. Perfectionists often set excessively high goals for themselves and our very critical about their work or performance. They may procrastinate in the fear of failure, and when they do they are critical and disappointed by their work. Perfectionism feeds onto the fear of judgment and the desire for approval. According to them only by being perfect in their work, their relationship, and their appearance then will be worthy of love and acceptance ( accepting themselves). This mindset is a trap that they are getting tangled in.
There is a certain power that imperfections hold.
The Power of Embracing Imperfections
Embracing imperfections is not about settling down for something less. Rather, it involves that the idea of perfection is an illusion, and our values are not dependent on the capability of attaining "perfect" standards. When we start accepting our imperfections, the world starts being simpler and less chaotic. And it will make us open to greater joy, love, and acceptance that perfectionists think is not worthy unless they do it in a ‘perfect’ manner.
How One May Overcome Perfectionism
· Setting realistic goals: Instead of chasing perfection look for the growth and progression you made while doing the work.
· Be self-compassionate: Treat yourself with love, respect, and kindness especially when you fall short of your expectations, be gentle with yourself.
· Focus on the process, and not only on outcomes: Enjoy the journey of learning and growing, and not just look for a ‘perfect’ outcome.
· Make mistakes as your learning opportunity: as it has been already said ‘learn from your mistakes’ still stands correct, rather than criticizing yourself think about what can you do to make it correct.
· Set boundaries: setting boundaries with ourselves is as important as setting them with others. It is very important to say no to ‘perfectionism’.
· Seeking support: when in need seek the support of your family, friends, or your therapist. Do not hesitate to be out there.
· Celebrate progress, not just perfection: own up and celebrate your achievements and progress, no matter how small it is, take pride in the progress you made rather than fixating on the outcome.
· Practice gratitude: Adopt the habit of gratitude for the not-so-perfect beauty of life and the opportunities, growth, connection, and self-acceptance that come along.

Embracing imperfection is an act of self-love and self-acceptance. It manifests that we are worthy of love, respect, and everything beautiful that we think we are not worthy of. Seeking perfection or the unrealistic standards set by society that one should be ‘perfect’ physically ( appearance), mentally, academically, and in every aspect of life, is not a compulsion to be followed . Trust yourself and your instincts and accept the flaws that will help you when life gets in your way. it will help you to flow with life and not the flow get in between your ‘perfect’ life.
