“  “Take the time to love yourself. You deserve it.” ”

We often prioritise those around us and forget our own importance in our lives. This can turn out to be a major cause of anxiety and depression. Prioritising oneself over others and realising that we are the only ones who can best take care of ourselves is very crucial in today’s day and age, where everyone has a fast-paced life.

When we give up on self-care, gradually we also start to take the enjoyment out of our lives. we begin to feel as if there is nothing pleasurable around us. We can understand it with the following comparison: a flower is not cared for, not given water and sunlight as and when needed. will slowly start to wither and die. Just like a flower, we too need love we require for our sustenance. Without it, we may as well start to feel sad and depressed, just like the flower. When one starts believing in themselves again, and regains the ability to prioritising oneself over others, we start to enjoy the little moments of life all over again. We realise how much we missed that feeling of happiness that had been missing for a while.

Self-care, in its truest sense, is taking care of ourselves by doing the things we love as well as enjoying it. This includes anything and everything. It does not limit to doing the activities that keep out external well-being intact, but also those that make us feel good about ourselves from within. It is an important aspect of our mental health. We need to understand what undermining ourselves and not looking after our happiness can do to our mental and emotional well-being. It helps us unwind from all the stress we have been feeling lately. We can also see its impact on our professional life. One becomes better able to make decisions and their efficiency also increases.

6 Ways You Can Practise Self-Care

Self-care involves activities that help us nourish our mind, body and soul. These are activities of self-love and prioritisation of our own happiness and well-being. One might be confused upon where to start, so here are a few ways you can begin your self-care journey. Keep in mind, self-care activities are not limited to luxurious spas and wellness centres. You can find the same solace in day-to-day activities.
