Hello, Lovely Souls!

  • Have you ever felt that your busy schedule leaves no time for a mental health check-in?

  • Would you prefer a subscription service that allows flexible unlimited messaging or rather schedule and pay for therapy sessions as you need them?

  • Have you ever wanted to try therapy, but found it expensive?

Our Magical Tool: Online Therapy!

Our Magical Tool is Online Therapy. Online Therapy is one of the varied forms of therapy that operates remotely, effectively leveraging technology as a weapon to make mental health services accessible. It is a medium of growing importance given the rapid digitalization of health services.

What is Online Therapy?

Online therapy, e-therapy, or video therapy provides counselling and support through virtual platforms - therapy on the phone, online chat, e-mail or instant messenger, video calls and other AI-friendly tools.

Pros of Online Therapy

- Affordability:

  • Cost-effective with fewer brick-and-mortar costs.

  • Reduction of waiting times.

  • No travel-oriented costs.

- Accessibility:

  • Convenient to people facing geographical barriers or physical disabilities.

  • Relevant in the Indian Context as most MHP’s are concentrated in the urban areas making the rural population underserved.

- Scheduling Versatility:

  • Offers flexibility in scheduling sessions.

  • Therapists available at times that align with a patient's schedule.

- Privacy and Anonymity:

  • Seek therapy at your own homes.

  • Avoid sitting in waiting rooms.

  • Use pseudonyms or opt for anonymity with AI and chatbots for added comfort.

Cons / Disadvantages of Online Therapy

- Tech-related difficulties:

  • Network connectivity issues, poor quality audio and video systems and frequent power cuts impact communication.

  • For those not digitally savvy, online therapy can be much more stressful.

- Limited grasp of non-verbal cues:

  • Challenging to pick up on body language and subtle cues, such as foot tapping, which are often lost.

  • Eliminates the opportunity to adapt to interaction cues.

- Depersonalization of therapy:

  • Difficult to establish a solid rapport digitally.

  • Cannot replace the real human connection that can trigger hormones alleviating stress.

- Digital Divide:

  • Lack of internet access, with even lower rates in rural areas.

  • Restricts access to digital devices and  mental health services for many.

Effectiveness of Online Therapy

  • Online Therapy is as effective as in-person therapy for treating PTSD, bulimia nervosa and other mental health conditions, including interpersonal issues, bereavement, trauma, depression, anxiety, chronic stress, and burnout.

  • However, for severe diagnoses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, initial in-person sessions may be necessary before transitioning to Online Therapy.

  • Effectiveness can vary based on the client, especially those with screen fatigue or attention difficulties like ADHD.

Tailoring the approach to each client's needs is essential. Therefore, it's crucial to tailor the therapeutic approach to the unique needs of each client.

Is Online Therapy as Effective as Traditional In-Person Therapy?

- Accessibility:

  • Online Therapy: Easy access, not limited by remote areas.

  • In-Person Therapy: Limited by geographical barriers.

- Convenience:

  • Online Therapy: Flexible scheduling.

  • In-Person Therapy: Fixed time and location.

- Therapeutic Relationship:

  • Online Therapy: May lack the depth of physical presence.

  • In-Person Therapy: Stronger rapport with face-to-face interaction.

- Non-Verbal Cues:

  • Online Therapy: Limited understanding of non-verbal cues.

  • In-Person Therapy: Better gauge of non-verbal cues.

- Cost:

  • Online Therapy: Generally more affordable with no travel costs.

  • In-Person Therapy: Higher costs due to physical overheads.
